The 3rd
National Conference on Tobacco or Health, held on December 23 to 24, 2014, at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, under the theme ‘Engage, Empower, Eradicate,’ focused on advancing the tobacco control movement in India. Organized by Salaam Bombay Foundation, Tata Memorial Hospital, Healis – Sekhsaria Institute for Public Health, and ACT India, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the conference saw the participation of over 330 attendees, showcasing best practices in tobacco control, advocacy advancements, and the latest research.
The conference featured about 80 speakers, 35 oral presentations, and 30 poster presentations, with key topics discussed including awareness on the ill effects of tobacco use, public policy, addiction, cessation, secondhand smoke, taxation, and the harmful effects of smokeless tobacco. The event provided a platform for participants to share experiences and achievements, further strengthening India’s efforts to combat tobacco use.
